The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is one of the largest and most respected police forces in the United States, employing over 36,000 officers and patrolling 77 precincts, with its Harbor Unit, part of the force’s Special Operations Bureau, piloting almost 100 vessels.
This fleet is subjected to constant use and harsh conditions while patrolling the entire NYC area. That's a lot of wear and tear. Facing down ageing vessels featuring insufficient, non- specialized lighting, the Harbor Unit turned to DuraBrite to provide the most robust solution possible, all while delivering the reliability needed for all-weather, daily use.
That's why each vessel was outfitted with DuraBrite Mini Series LED flood lights, to ensure the safety of the officers operating onboard and to aid in all search and rescue operations.

The NYPD Scuba Team uniquely benefits from DuraBrite's upgrade, as the Mini Series innovative engineering provides robust light penetration into the murky waters of the Hudson River.
Custom Feature Development
To provide an added layer of protection for the crew, the NYPD's lights were customized with the added option to switch from searchlights to "Dazzler Strobes" which both protect the officers and deter any individuals approaching with hostile intentions. This powerful strobe feature rapidly pulsing LEDs, creating an uncomfortable situation for anyone on the receiving end, from thieves to active shooters.
